Located at the heart of the LMU’s HighTechCampus Grosshadern/Martinsried, the Gene Center is part of a vibrant community of institutions dedicated to research and education in the life sciences. Among the neighboring organizations are the LMU’s Faculties of Chemistry/Pharmacy and Biology, the University Hospital Grosshadern, as well as the Max-Planck Institutes of Biochemistry and Neurobiology, and the Hematology unit of the Helmholtz Center Munich. Cross-institutional connections are enhanced by a variety of scientific networks, including the Excellence Clusters CIPSM and NIM, the Graduate Schools QBM, GSN, and IMPRS-LS, the Center for Nanoscience (CeNS), and several DFG Collaborative Research Centers (SFBs) and Graduate Colleges. Fueled by the strength of this research environment, Martinsried has established itself as one of the top locations for the biotech startup industry in Europe, with support provided by the Innovation and Startup Center for Biotechnology (IZB) and through the BioM Network. The Grosshadern/Martinsried campus is located in the southeast of Munich in a suburban setting, yet with excellent access to other parts of the city via public transport. A diverse selection of shops, restaurants, and hotels is on offer in the old village of Grosshadern around the subway station as well as in nearby Martinsried.
